So for my first-ever official blog post (AAAHH!!) I thought I’d give you a little more insight into where I am going to be serving this summer and what my team and I will be doing!

The Philippines is an island country of Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean.  It is an archipelago (a large group or chain of islands) made up of around 7,100 islands and islets and lies about 500 miles off the coast of Vietnam.  The Philippines has a population of roughly 108 million.  There are two seasons in the Philippines, the wet season (from June to November) and the dry season (from December to May).  The Philippines is a very ethnically diverse country, its society consisting of nearly 100 culturally and linguistically distinct ethnic groups.  Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, is located on the island of Luzon, where our outreach will be taking place.  Manila is very densely populated and contains a significant proportion of the population of the country.  Manila is the most homeless city in the world, containing over 3 million out of the 4.5 million people who are homeless throughout the country…70,000 of them being children.  Homelessness is a large problem across all of the Philippines with one-fourth of the the overall population living in poverty.

During my team’s month in Manila, we will be partnering with the Kid’s International Ministry.  Some of our outreach will include serving in the nursery, building relationships with the kids, tutoring, assisting with the daily distribution of food and medicine, leading devotions with the youth, serving in the birthing clinic and assisting with disaster relief.  Our purpose is to show the Gospel to the people of Manila by serving as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ.

Here are some specific ways I ask you would be praying for me and my team as we prepare for this upcoming summer:

1) Provision.  Each of us has to raise $4,550 to go on this trip!  Please pray that God will provide and our financial needs will be met.

2) Protection.  We all know that the devil seeks to destroy those who are in Christ, especially those who are called advance God’s kingdom.  Please pray that we will be protected from doubt, discouragement and fear.  And prayers that the Holy Spirit will give strength to any who come under attack.

3) Divine Opportunities.  I ask that you would be praying for the Lord to provide us with opportunities to share His love and make Him known, both here in the States and while we are overseas.

4) Preparing Hearts.  Most of all I request that you would pray for the hearts of the people we will meet as well as ours.  Pray that even now, the Holy Spirit will go before us, planting seeds, preparing, softening and opening hearts to be led to Himself!  Also for us, that we would be overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit and would overflow with His love.

Again, thank you so much for your support and prayers!
